“This pioneer cemetery is named for Thomas Walker Pound who came to Arkansas in 1843 with a large group of relatives. There are 4 generations of the Pound family buried here. Thomas Walker Pound served as Clerk of Yell County and was appointed District Judge in 1878. Both he and his son J. W. Pound served in the Civil War. J. W. was Mayor of Danville. Grandson T. L. Pound was Mayor and editor or the Danville Democrat. Gr-grandson W. W. Pound served as a hospital corpsman in the U. S. Navy.

“Penelope Baxter Hall purchased this land in 1846. She was the first person buried in this pioneer cemetery in 1856. Some of her children (Mary Ann Caffrey, Luvinia Hall Walker, and Lucinda Pound, wife of Thomas Walker Pound) are also buried here along with some descendants and extended family members.
